Luisa is unique because her 14-year-old son is disabled and will always require help from a caretaker. Her son also needs frequent linen and clothing changes. Remarkably, Luisa had always scrubbed her son’s linens by hand because she could not afford to purchase a washer and dryer.

When Client Services realized that Luisa was washing her son’s clothing by hand, they arranged for her to pick up a used washer and dryer left from a Transitional Housing move-out.

GRACE Client Services continually ensures that donated items are put to good use for our clients. We hope that Luisa can take a brief minute to relax after work now that she has some help with the laundry.

Tori & Paul Schaefer donate to Food Pantry

In honor of Valentine’s Day, the GRACE Food Pantry received the best gift of all–a 1,400 pound donation!

At the Yo-He-Wah Nation’s annual Sweetheart Dance,  nearly 400 dads and 500 daughters generously donated supplies for GRACE before they danced the night away at the DFW Hyatt and enjoyed activities including glitter stations and a formal dinner.  Afterward, Brave Paul Schaefer and Princess Tori Schaefer delivered an entire truck filled with food, toiletries and much-needed diapers.

According to Tribe Leader Dan Shinedling, “The organization is designed to provide fun ways for fathers and daughters to build relationships. Camping, fishing, hockey, Pinewood Derby and the Sweetheart Dance highlight our program.”

This is not the first time the Indian Princesses have given to GRACE. According to Tribe Elder Todd Schneider, the Indian Princesses have served GRACE in a number of ways over the years including collecting Christmas gifts for the GRACE Christmas Cottage, recycling tennis shoes and landscaping the GRACE Pantry complex. Thank you to the Indian Princesses for showing us love year-round!

Representative Katrina Keith from the Miss Molly Foundation recently visited Development Director Mark Woolverton at GRACE Main to award their first check of more than $900 for GRACE Programs. The money was contributed bit by bit, or in this case, dime by dime. For each housecleaning during the month of December, Molly Maids donated a dime. We are impressed both by the check and the number of house cleanings in one month!
Thank you to Molly Maids for this great contribution. We are so thankful that you chose to support a local, grassroots organization like GRACE.

Here is her story:

I just came back from the grocery store where I was buying the paper goods and some of the groceries for next week.  The young man that was sacking up my stuff said, “Wow, you must be having a picnic.” ” No,” I said, “ it’s for the Feed Our Kids Program next week.” He dropped his voice a little and said, “That’s a really great program.”  “Yes,” I said, “I think so, too.” Then he said, “You fed me.  Well, I know that you didn’t feed me but somebody like you gave me food when I was hungry.  So I just want to thank you.”

The young grocer grew up in El Paso and was fed by a program similar to Feed Our Kids. This just goes how programs like Feed Our Kids are not only successful, but a lifelong impact. Not to mention how great it feels knowing we are in good company around the state! Each and every volunteer who helps spread the word of GRACE’s programs not only to those living in NE Tarrant County, but to family members near and far, have the ability to possibly light the fire of need in another community– helping feed more kids in need. Which, in the end, is what we are working towards.
